Used Eye Glasses and Hearing
Aids
The Grafton Lions collect used eye glasses and hearing
aids and send them to the Wisconsin Lions Foundation recycling center in
Rosholt, Wisconsin. At the recycling center, the items are inspected,
cleaned and repaired. These rejuvenated glasses and hearing aids are
then distributed by Lions clubs though out the world to needy people.
Several clubs in Wisconsin travel to Mexico and Latin America to
personally distribute the recycled glass. If you have eye glasses or a
hearing aid to donate to this effort, please contact Dr. Tom Freed at
262-375-0220.
Wisconsin
Lions Foundation Eye Glass Recycling
The Eyeglass Recycling Center in Rosholt Wisconsin is one
of only nine centers worldwide. Over one million pair of glasses is
processed at the Center, with over 450,000 pair being sent to developing
countries. Eyeglasses received at the eyeglass facility at Lions Camp
are sorted, cleaned, categorized, bagged, and boxed in preparation for
shipment to developing countries. People in developing countries have
been known to walk miles and miles to get the free eyeglasses. Qualified
personnel fit eyeglasses to their needs as nearly as possible.
WLF - Hearing
Aid Program
The WLF Hearing Aid Program helps Wisconsin's needy
individuals who are hard of hearing, cannot afford to purchase a hearing
instrument, and do not qualify for any existing state-funded financial
assistance programs. The success of the Hearing Aid Program relies on
the collaborative efforts and generosity of Wisconsin Lions, Lioness,
and Leo Clubs, hearing healthcare professionals, and hearing aid
manufacturers. Lions, Lioness, and Leo Clubs throughout the State
collect used hearing aids and provide funding for recipients; hearing
professionals agree to accept reduced fees for their services; and
hearing aid manufactures provide large discounts on hearing devices
dispensed to recipients. Any individual interested in receiving
assistance from the Program is required to fill out an application for
financial assistance. Applications can be obtained by contacting the
Grafton Lions or by calling the WLF Office, toll-free at 1-877-463-6953.
